FAQs

How much does it cost for a personalized labor union referral?

Nothing, it's absolutely FREE; it always has been and always will be.

Can my employer legally threaten or punish me in any way for joining a labor union?

No. You have the right to form, join, or support a labor union, per the Department of Labor National Labor Relations Board.

Do union workers really earn more than non-union workers performing similiar work?

Yes. Unionized workers earn about 16% more than their non-union counterparts. 92% of union workers also have job-related health coverage vs only 68% of non-union workers and they are more likely to have retirement accounts. 94% of union workers have access to retirement benefits vs 67% of non-union workers.

How do my coworkers and I join a union?

A union will need to collect union authorization cards from over 50% of the designated group of employees (called a bargaining unit) to automatically become your collective bargaining representative -if your employer voluntarily recognizes the union.

If the employer chooses not to voluntarily recognize the union, a vote will be scheduled and overseen by the National Labor Relations Board.  In order for a vote to happen, the union will have to collect authorization cards from at least 30% of the bargaining unit.  In order for the union to win the election, more than 50% of the employees who vote would have to vote in favor of unionization.  If that happened, you would be represented by the union and your employer would be required to recognize the union.

Will my request be kept confidential?

Yes. Your request and our response will exlusively be shared with you and the labor union that you are referred to.

Can I advertise on Union Guy?

Yes. We proudly display pro-union and union-friendly advertisements.

Sounds Great and All...but Who's Behind Union Guy

Teske Family

I'm Dustin and I received my introduction to labor unions when I began working for UPS in 1997.  As a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Local 542, I began to understand the union advantage.  I learned that, thanks to my union membership, I had safer working conditions, the ability to take adequate breaks, good wages and benefits.  Since then, I continued to learn more about the labor movement and attended the National Labor College (NLC). where I earned an associate degree.  Prior to its closure in 2014, the NLC was a one-of-a-kind institution, founded by the AFL-CIO to serve the higher education needs and interests of members of the labor movement. It was the only college in the United States with an exclusive mission to serve the educational needs of the labor movement.  Now, as a union member employed at a healthcare organization for more than 25 years, I continue to appreciate the advantages of union membership every day. Some of the ways that, through the years, I have been a strong advocate for the labor movement and worked to promote union values include:

  • ‘Buy Union’ when possible and boycott when necessary (never set foot inside a unionized grocery store during the 2003 - 2004 strike and illegal lockout).

  • Worked as a volunteer organizer with the National Union of Healthcare Workers (NUHW) during a campaign to organize EVS workers in healthcare offices into their union.

  • Provided support to members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) Local 683 who were on strike to get a first contract at a Coke facility in Oceanside, California.

  • As a union steward, I utilized my resources to assist fellow union members with issue resolution and served as an elected member of the contract negotiating team in addition to serving on the Labor Management Partnership Committee and Communications Committee.

  • In addition to regularly participating in online union campaigns, I have picketed the Walmart on Murphy Canyon Road (San Diego, California) with members of the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW) Local 135 during their ‘WakeUpWalmart’ campaign.

  • Canvassed San Diego County and collected union authorization cards from nearly 100 security officers employed by Securitas to aid in the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 1877 (now SEIU-USWW) that resulted in a successful organizing drive.

Now that you know more about me, how can I help you?

In Solidarity,

Dustin E. Teske
